Case Study: Monster

We worked with on the “Multi-Generational Worker Attitudes” study to understand how different generations view entrepreneurship, how they evaluate companies and their overall attitudes to their current or previous employment situation. Monster sent an invitation to 200,000 randomly selected Monster users to participate in a Monster Workplace Survey between October 29 and November 29th, 2012. A total sample of 2,828 of those invited participated by completing an online survey form.

Key findings

  • 32% of Gen Y consider themselves to be entrepreneurs compared to 41% of Gen X and 45% of Boomers.
  • Nearly one-third of all generations feel that they have the freedom, flexibility, and resources to be an intrapreneur and slightly more Gen Y respondents feel that they have their management’s support in becoming an intrapreneur.
  • Only 28% of Gen Y identified with being high risk, while 40% of Gen X and 43% of Boomers felt the same way.
  • 33% of Gen Y, followed by 22% of Gen X and 15% of Boomers select training and development opportunities as being most important when considering working for a company.
  • 42% of respondents have opportunities to work on projects outside of their direct responsibility but only 23% encourage workers to work on these projects.
